I have two blogs now. One for my photography, which is myphotosbynicole and this one I've named Moms Garden. I know, I know its July and I've just now started. Well kind of. Let me give you a little history on my gardening adventures before I explain. Two years ago I had started a garden! I had the most positive attitude towards gardening. I just knew it was going to come naturally for me. Hey, both my Grandfathers and my Mother are green thumbs so why not I, right? I was so excited! My wonderful, sweet husband tilled an area in our back yard, the kids and I planted our seedlings in the house via a green house box. Everything was going along wonderfully! Started them in mid April (which is the time to start seeding in North Texas) and they sprouted up so fast. If I remember correctly I planted tomatoes, summer and green squash, onions and red/green bell peppers. It was time to move my little green house box with a lush of green sprouts coming up, outside, via the instructions. Unfortunately the instructions did not prewarn about Rabbits. The next day I went out to check on my labor and everything was gone except for the dirt and box :(. I was then very discouraged to say the least and pretty much gave up. Then last Spring I decided to try it again. When it was time for my little green box to go outside I was smarter this time. I put it up on a table. Well...the table didn't save it from the humongous storm that decided to roll through my backyard in the middle of the night! Again I felt discouraged and was knocked off my green thumb high horse by Mother Nature once again, but at least this time I didn't have my wonderful husband till up any dirt yet. So I went to The Home Depot and decided to start with a blueberry bush and a grape vine along with some rabbit repellent. The lady at home depot gave me some good advice as well that I will share with you all just in case you have the same Rabbit problem that I do. If you put human hair around your garden the rabbits will stay away. Haven't needed to try it yet (huh) but next Spring I will and I'll let you know how that goes. So back to the present. A couple weeks ago we went to visit our very dear friends the Smarts and they had come up with the best garden idea ever. A two foot high garden box on their deck. I'm not certain how big but I'm estimating 3x6 square feet. I was instantly interested. I want one! But before I have my wonderful brother and husband build me one I want to be certain that I can do it. You see my high gardening self esteem is not very high right now. But I've gotta few projects going on and if they go well I will have my deck garden by this next Spring 2012. So here's some pictures! Enjoy and come back for updates. I will also share everything that I learn with you and I welcome any advice that you may have for me!!!
Hybrid Tomato! When milk carton is empty fill it up with water without rinsing it out and water your tomatoes with it.
Anaheim Peppers and Jalapenos
I'm going to attempt to grow chives and cilantro in doors!
Wish me luck!
